ARCHBISHOP Romulo Valles is recovering well after being hospitalized for more than a month due to mild stroke, according to Msgr. Paul Cuison, vicar general of the Archdiocese of Davao.
Valles, president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, was brought to the hospital on May 23 for mild stroke, had hospital-acquired pneumonia, and was finally discharged on July 6.
CBCP vice president Bishop Pablo David has been as acting CBCP president.
“I am happy to let you know that he is getting back to his normal self in an almost miraculous way, with only a slight problem of his physical movement, which is also showing great improvement,” said Cuison in a report of the CBCP News, the official publication of the CBCP.
“I am optimistic that it would be a matter of days and he will be back to celebrate public masses with the faithful,” he added.
Cuison said the Davao prelate celebrated Mass last week for his 69th birthday, on July 10, his first Mass since the stroke last week, during a private gathering at the archbishop’s residence.
