THE Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday called on the Filipino faithful to offer prayers for the people of India, which has been experiencing a surge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
In a statement, CBCP – Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (ECMI) vice chairman Bishop Ruperto Santos said: “Let us always remember and include India in our prayers and Holy Masses, that with the rest of world, this COVID-19 pandemic will end and healing will come to all of us.”
“As one humanity, all of us must work as one to bring hope and help to all, and all of us must beg our almighty God to lead us to safety, sound health, and success in combatting this COVID-19,” he also said.
Santos’ call comes as India suffers the world’s worst COVID-19 outbreak that is highlighted by the 352,991 new cases, which is the highest single-day figure globally, recorded just last Monday.
Disease experts, however, believe that the real COVID-19 numbers for India could be up to 30 times higher as many cases remain unreported.
But aside from praying for India, Santos urged Filipinos to learn from the former’s experiences with the ongoing pandemic.
