THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said the voting machines used in the recently concluded special elections in the seventh district of Cavite was found to be 99.96 percent accurate in counting the votes for congressman.
In a statement, the Comelec said the random manual audit (RMA) conducted last Sunday detected only one variance between the counts made by the Automated Election System (AES) and the RMA.
“After auditing seven out of seven clustered precincts randomly selected, it yielded an accuracy rate of 99.95968% with only one variance or difference between the counts made by the AES and the RMA,” said the Comelec.
In particular, the difference was found in the town of Tanza in Cavite after only 1,066 out of the 1,067 votes matched.
On the other hand, the votes from Trece Martires City, Indang, and Amadeo matched 100 percent.
“Said variance can be readily explained by the difference between the visual and mechanical measurements (reading) of the oval shading threshold by the Random Manual Audit Team (RMAT) and the Vote Counting Machine (VCM),” said the Comelec.
