STORM warnings were lifted yesterday in three areas in northern Luzon as tropical depression “Carina” continued to move out of the country.
Senior weather special Chris Peres said Carina is expected to be in the vicinity of the western section of Taiwan this morning, as a low pressure area.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Carina was some 140 km west northwest of Basco, Batanes as of 4 p.m. yesterday.
It was moving northwestward slowly, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
It was forecast to be some 385 km north of Basco this afternoon.
Signal No. 1 was raised on Monday in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and in the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan.
Carina was expected to weaken into a low pressure area last night or this morning.
“Moderate to rough seas (1.2 to 3.1 meters) will be experienced over the seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Isabela in the next 24 hours. Those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out to sea,” PAGASA said.
