THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday said a batch of a cosmetic product manufactured in China has been found to contain a “carcinogenic,” or cancerous, element.
It said “Meiya Matte Lipgloss — ME-6058,” a product of Xuri Trading Corp., has been found to contain Rhodamine B which is an element that is not allowed in a cosmetic product.
The FDA said the substance was found particularly in products with lot/batch number of TL20230424ME, with manufacturing date of April 2023 and expiration date of April 2026.
It said Rhodamine B is a fluorescent dye used as a tracer in water and air flow studies, and in molecular and cell biology studies. It presents as a red to violet powder and has been shown to be carcinogenic in mammalian models.
