A CANADIAN was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City yesterday for allegedly attempting to smuggle 7.15 kilos of suspected shabu worth P48.62 million.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) identified the female suspect as Wendy Jane Marais, 64, who claimed she is a consultant.

PDEA said Marais was nabbed by operatives of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) during an interdiction operation at 2:15 p.m.

PDEA, one of the law enforcement agencies that compose the task group, said Marais was nabbed at the Customs International Arrival Area, NAIA Terminal 1 with a piece of baggage containing the shabu.

Also inside the baggage were assorted clothes, a Canadian passport, a customs baggage declaration form, a cellphone, and a boarding pass.

PDEA said Marais arrived in the country on board a Japan Airlines Flight 741 from Narita, Japan.

In Cebu City, suspected drug peddler Julito Cabucal Cabiso, alias July, was arrested by police operatives in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Ermita yesterday afternoon.

Police seized from him 605 grams of suspected shabu worth P4.1 million.

Police said Cabiso is included in the list of high-value targets in the war against drugs in Central Visayas.
