THE Federation of Free Workers (FFW) yesterday renewed their call for a nationwide legislated wake hike of P150, citing the necessity to address the “glaring” disparities in regional wages that continue to affect the welfare of ordinary workers and their families.

FFW President Sonny Matula said the wage discrepancies among regions have been a pressing concern for ordinary workers and labor unions such as the FFW.

“While the recent P40 daily wage increase in Central Luzon offers some relief, it is viewed as insufficient to meet the basic needs of workers and their families in various regions,” Matula said in a statement.

His point was echoed by two of FFW’s affiliated labor unions, the Trade Federation for Garments and Textiles (TF2) and the Charter Link Clark Employees Union which said the recent wage increase was a welcome development but not enough to meet the basic needs of the workers and their families.

“This is just one piece of the puzzle. To ensure a decent standard of living for workers across the nation, without abandoning our right to collective bargaining negotiations, we must pursue a nationwide P150 legislated wage hike,” TF2 chairperson Melanie de Dios and Charter Link president Eric Nalam said in separate statements.
