Bulacan barangay plebiscite set on March 25

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) will hold the plebiscite in Barangay Muzon in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan on March 25, it announced yesterday.

“The Commission on Elections hereby sets the date of the plebiscite to ratify the division of Barangay Muzon in the city of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan into four separate and independent barangays on March 25, 2023,” said the Comelec in Resolution No. 10880.

The plebiscite is mandated by Republic Act No. 11896, which divides Barangay Muzon into Barangay Muzon Proper, Barangay Muzon East, Barangay Muzon West, and Barangay Muzon South.

The law directs the Comelec to conduct a plebiscite in Barangay Muzon for the ratification of the law, which lapsed into law on July 1, 2022.

With the scheduled plebiscite day, the poll body set the Information and Campaign Period from February 23 to March 23, 2023.

During the said period, it shall be prohibited to remove, destroy, deface, and tamper lawful plebiscite propaganda materials; use of armored land/water/aircraft; and use of special policemen and confidential agents.

The Commission also set the plebiscite period in Barangay Muzon from February 23 to April 1, 2023.

During the plebiscite period, it is considered prohibited to carry firearms and other deadly weapons, maintenance of reaction forces, transfer of officers and employees in the civil service, suspension of local elective officials, and the release of prisoners.
