AN employee of the Bureau of Correction is in hot water after he was caught with a cellular phone inside the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, despite a directive from the Department of Justice prohibiting such item in the national penitentiary.
The employee, whose identify BuCor did not disclose, was caught during a surprise inspection at the NBP and the BuCor’s office also inside the national penitentiary by operatives of the Office of the Director General and Intelligence Investigation Division.
“This is in compliance with the instruction of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on the prohibition of entry of cellular phones in the Bureau of Corrections,” BuCor spokesman Gabriel Chaclag said.
Chaclag said the employee is now facing administrative charges for violating the DOJ directive.
BuCor told its employees to abide by the directive, adding any violation “shall be dealt with accordingly.”
Remulla, in his speech before DOJ officials and employees when he formally assumed the post early this month, named BuCor, the Bureau of Immigration, and the Land Registration Authority as the three sub-agencies of the department that need help because of alleged corruption.
