THE Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) yesterday required all individuals to submit “negative” coronavirus disease (COVID-19) antigen test results and wear face masks when doing transactions in its offices to prevent the further spread of the virus among inmates and personnel.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang has signed a memorandum imposing the twin requirements a day after prison officials confirmed the “positive” antigen test results of 55 inmates.
Five BuCor personnel have also tested positive of COVID-19, with one showing mild symptoms.
Visiting privileges have already been suspended at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City and the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City.
Of the 55 sick inmates, 33 have mild symptoms while the rest are asymptomatic.
