AT least 400 inmates or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City and other prisons and penal colonies in the country, the Bureau of Corrections said yesterday.
Among those released are 25 PDLs from the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.
Majority of the 401 released PDLs are from NBP with 163, followed by 99 in the Davao Prison and Penal Farm, and Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Southern Leyte with 47.
Of the 163 released PDLs from the NBP, 59 were from the maximum security compound, 86 from the medium security compound, 14 from minimum security, and four from the Reception and Diagnostic Center.
Data from the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) also showed that most of the PDLs were released on parole, 106 for completing their maximum sentence, and 65 for having been acquitted of their crimes.
