A CORRECTION officer of the Bureau of Corrections was promoted on the spot last Sunday after she stopped an attempt to smuggle shabu to an inmate at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. said he approved the spot promotion of Correction Officer (CO) 1 Everlyn Pingian to CO2.
“She exemplifies what a true corrections officer should be because she does not just do her job, she does it well,” Catapang said.
“We hope to have more Pingian in Bucor, worthy of emulation,” Catapang added.
Catapang said Pingian, while conducting a search on a certain Wilmar S. Castro, of Rosario, Pasig City, saw the latter inserting something in her private parts. This prompted Pingian to instruct Castro to squat several times, which resulted in the discovery of a tube containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.
Castro was about to visit his cousin, Jeric Fino, an inmate at Dorm 4B, Medium Security Camp of NBP.
She was arrested by Pingian and was turned over to the Muntinlupa City police station while the confiscated substance was turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
