BuCor officer shot dead near NBP

A BUREAU of Corrections (BuCor) officer was shot dead by two unidentified men yesterday near the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City.

BuCor spokesman Maj. Alberto Tapiru identified the victim as Correction Officer 1 Proferio Bergula. He was shot at about 10:30 a.m.

Tapiru said Bergula was buying dried fish at a variety store in Poblacion market, about 400 meters away from the NBP, when he was shot by two motorcycle riding men who immediately fled.

Bergula sustained a gunshot wound in his left chest. He was rushed by members of the Muntinlupa Rescue Team to the Medical Center Muntinlupa in Putatan but was declared dead at about 11:02 a.m.

The motive behind the shooting is still being determined.

Last August, BuCor executive Ruperto Traya Jr. was shot dead in Muntinlupa.

Operatives of the Police Community Precinct 6 of the Muntinlupa City Police are conducting manhunt operations against the suspects. — Rod Lagusad
