AMID the ongoing territorial dispute between Makati City and Taguig City over 10 barangays, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that its local office in Taguig City will receive the Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) of those who will run in the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

In a phone interview, Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said the Commission en banc has ruled to set the COC filing, which will run from August 28 to September 2, at the Taguig Convention Center.

“The Comelec en banc will be coming out with a resolution setting the filing of the COCs from the 10 barangays (from Makati) with the Taguig Office of the Election Officer (OEO),” said Laudiangco.

“It is already confirmed: We will have the filing at the Taguig Convention Center,” he added.

Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) ruled that the 10 barangays in the second district of Makati City were actually under the jurisdiction of Taguig City.

The 10 barangays involved are Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, Pitogo, Rizal, Northside, and Southside.

The Comelec has said that it will wait word from the SC if the ruling on the territorial dispute is already final and executory.

If deemed final and executory, the Comelec said it will be transferring the venue of the COC filing for the 10 barangays from its Makati City OEO to the Taguig City OEO.
