ONE of the two killers of radio broadcaster Cresenciano Bunduquin has been identified and is now subject of “hot pursuit operations,” said Col. Samuel Delorino, Oriental Mindoro provincial police director.

The other gunman, who has also been identified, died Wednesday after the attack on Cresenciano Bunduquin who was shot dead in front of his convenience store in Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro.

Delorino did not identify the suspect but said he is a resident of Oriental Mindoro who, he said, was identified through the evidence.

“If we get him, we are going to investigate if there are others involved in the killing of Mr. Bunduquin,” he said.

A son of Bunduquin, aboard a car, chased the suspects who fled on a motorcycle. He bumped the suspects’ motorcycle, killing the driver, Narcisco Guntan who succumbed to head injuries, while the passenger managed to escape.

Responding policemen recovered Guntan’s cellphone, the motorcycle, two cal. 45 pistols, and identification cards.

Delorino said Guntan, a resident of Roxas town in Oriental Mindoro, had been charged with frustrated murder and possession of illegal drugs.

“If we are able to arrest the other (suspect) in our manhunt operation, hot pursuit operation, we will have a clearer picture if they were ordered (to kill Bunduquin) or if they did it due to personal grudge with the victim,” said Delorino.

He said Bunduquin’s killing may be work related or due to personal grudge. Citing results of initial interviews with Bunduquin’s relatives, Delorino said the victim had received threats. He said they have yet to get details of the alleged threats, noting that the relatives are still in shock.

He said police investigators will conduct follow-up interviews with the relatives to determine the motive.

Meanwhile, Oriental Mindoro Gov. Humerlito Dolor has offered a P100,000 reward for information that would lead to the arrest of the remaining suspect.

Dolor said the provincial government was shocked over the killing.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) earlier offered a P50,000 reward in exchange for information that would lead to the suspect’s arrest.

PNP Public Information Office chief Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said “a thorough investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The PNP is exerting every possible effort to solve this case and at the same time ensure the safety and security of all working journalists in the country through our network of regional PTFOMS focal persons,” said Maranan.
