THE week-long Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week for this school year is set from July 22 to 27, the Department of Education said.
DepEd Memorandum Order No. 33 series of 2024 also set “Bayanihan Para sa Matatag na Paaralan” as the theme of the event.
“The National Brigada Eskwela Kick Off program shall be held on July 17, 2024 at Carmen National High School, in the Schools Division Office of Cebu Province,” the memorandum said.
Last year’s Brigada Eskwela was held at the Tarlac National High School in Tarlac
The DepEd said the launch will be streamed live on the agency’s official Facebook page
It added that DepEd regional and school division offices may also hold their own activities to launch the Brigada Eskwela in their respective areas before the start of the week-long activities
The Brigada Eskwela does not accept cash donations. What it solicits are cleaning and repair materials, other non-cash assistance and community volunteers who paint the classroom, repair chairs and tables, leaking roofs and faucets, cement walkways, spruce up the garden and surroundings in preparation for the opening of classes
The DepEd earlier set the opening of classes for the school year 2024-2025 on July 29 and end on May 16, 2025
The program was launched in 2003 as part of the DepEd’s Adopt-A-School program.
During its first year of implementation, the participation rate was only at a dismal 31 percent but since it was made an institutional event in 2008, the participation rate of schools jumped to 100 percent.
