OUTGOING President Duterte is free to join the incoming administration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. either as Cabinet member or in the campaign against illegal drugs “if he wants to.”

Marcos, in an interview with select media networks, said there have been no formal talks between him and Duterte but added he is “open” to work with anyone who is able and willing to help the government.

“If he wants to,” he said when asked if Duterte will have a Cabinet post or join his government as drug czar.

He said he had long known the President and “if he wants to play a part, sasabihin naman nya sa akin (if he wants to play a part, he will tell me).”

Marcos said he has talked with Duterte “several” times prior to the May 9 elections but could not say when. He said among the things they talked about was the President’s request, if he wins, to sustain the campaign against illegal drugs in the way he sees fit as it threatens the future of the youth.

Duterte had said early this week that he would forever be the enemy of drug lords and syndicates even after his term. He also said that he would continue to be a public servant and help if he can, after he steps down as president.

Marcos reiterated that politics or having opposing opinions with him in the past is not an issue in making appointments. He said his qualification remains being qualified and being the best in the field, and willingness to work with him and or the country.
