LINGAYEN-Dagupan Auxiliary Bishop Fidelis Layog is set to temporarily oversee the Diocese of Alaminos.
This after Pope Francis appointed Layog as the Apostolic Administrator of the Alaminos Diocese on Tuesday, according to a report of the CBCPNews, the official news agency of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
“He will temporarily oversee the affairs of the Diocese until a new bishop is appointed by the Pope,” said the CBCPNews.
The Vatican usually appoints an Apostolic Administrator to temporarily head a diocese when it becomes vacant.
The Diocese was left without a head after former Alaminos Bishop Ricardo Baccay was appointed as the new archbishop of Tuguegarao last October 19.
Layog has been serving as the auxiliary bishop of Lingayen-Dagupan since May 2019. — Gerard Naval
