A VISITOR at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City was arrested yesterday after trying to sneak in 51 grams of suspected shabu.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. identified the suspect as Jacquiline Joson.
Citing reports provided to his office, Catapang said Joson placed the suspected shabu in plastic and hid it in her private part using electrical tape.
He said Joson was scheduled to visit inmate Joseph Francisco, a member of the Sputnik Gang detained at Dorm 4B at the NBP’s medium security compound.
The shabu was found when Joson was frisked by jail guards at the entrance of the national penitentiary.
Catapang said Joson has been turned over to the Muntinlupa City police.
Members of the BuCor Special Patrol Unit caught inmate Angelito Garcia inside the NBP’s maximum security compound with 19 sachets of suspected shabu in the waistline of his shorts.
Catapang said the suspected shabu was turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for laboratory analysis.
In another operation, BuCor personnel also confiscated prohibited items from inmates Esmeraldo Zapra of Dorm 8C3 Bldg 8, Quadrant 3 and Alex Gregorio of Dorm 5C, Bldg. 5, Quadrant 4 both from the maximum-security compound.
Confiscated from Zapra were three cellular phones, five cellphone chargers, two USB, and one SIM card.
Recovered from Gregorio’s possession were 60 sticks of cigarettes and four pieces of cigar pipes.
Catapang said he initiated an investigation as to how the inmates were able to get hold of the suspected shabu and contraband items despite the intensified security measures at the sprawling NBP complex.
