THE Bureau of Corrections yesterday said 116 new graduates of the Corrections Basic Recruit Course have been deployed to help secure the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison and other facilities inside the national penitentiary.

BuCor spokeswoman lawyer Wena Fe Dalagan said the new correction officers who graduated last October 22 will augment the agency’s personnel tasked to secure the NBP.

“Most of them have been deployed at the NBP maximum security compound while others were detailed at the medium and minimum security compounds,” Dalagan said.

“Others were also detailed at the RDC (Reception and Diagnostic Center) and at the hospital. Meron din sa engineering office para maka-assist sa ating mga infrastructure projects na i-implement (Some were also assigned to the engineering office to assist in our infrastructure projects),” she also said.

Inmates transferred to the NBP undergo quarantine and medical examinations to determine their physical and mental state at the RDC before they are brought to their respective detention cells.

The Sambuklod Class of 2019 is composed of Correction Officers 1 (94 males and 13 females) and Corrections Technical Officer 1 (7 males and 2 females).

Aside from the BuCor personnel, a contingent of the police elite commando unit, the Special Action Force, were also deployed to help secure the maximum security compound, particularly Building 14 where most of the high-profile inmates convicted of drug trafficking and other crimes are detained.
