A SUB-LEADER of the terrorist group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was arrested in Maguindanao del Sur last Sunday, nearly six years after the military reported his death in a similar encounter.
Mah Nanding, who carries the alias Marox, was arrested by troops from the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion and 3rd Cavalry Company after a firefight in Barangay Pidsandawan in Mamasapano town.
The clash also resulted in the death of Nanding’s son, Mohamad Nanding, according to the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (ID).
The firefight between the soldiers and the 15 BIFF men broke out at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday during a combat operation.
The military said the BIFF men retreated due to the superiority in strength of the operating troops.
Clearing operations led to the arrest of the BIFF sub-leader, and the recovery of his son’s body.
