A MEMBER of the terrorist group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was killed while a civilian was injured in a firefight with government troops in Talayan town in Maguindanao on Sunday, the military reported said yesterday.
Troops from the Army’s 601st Brigade were on a security operation when they clashed with about 18 members of the BIFF-Bungos faction at around 1 a.m. Sunday in Barangay Damablac, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division said.
The group was reportedly led Khadaffi Abdulatif alias Abu Mukayam, chief of staff of the BIFF-Bungos faction, and one Abdamel Abdulatif alias Ma-Mac.
The group fled after a five-minute firefight and blended with civilians, the military said.
Troops recovered at the encounter site the body of one of the terrorists and an improvised explosive device.
A civilian, identified as Utain Kalantungan, 46, was injured during the exchange of gunfire. He was brought to the Integrated Provincial Health Office.
Since January this year, four BIFF men have died in military operations in Central Mindanao while 154 others have surrendered, the military said.
