A BOMB courier of the terrorist group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) died after a clash with government troops in Shariff Saydona Mustapha town in Maguindanao.

The military’s Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) named the fatality as Tugali Galmak, alias Datu Guibo, a BIFF supporter supposedly acting as a bomb courier for the group.

Personnel from the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion and local PNP swooped down on the lair of Galmak to serve an arrest warrant in Barangay Dalembong at around 11:20 a.m. last Friday. The military did not specify the case that warranted the issuance of the arrest warrant.

Soldiers and policemen were approaching the BIFF lair when Datu Guibo and some 10 companions opened fire at the operating troops, forcing the troops to return fire.

An eight-minute exchange of fire led to the death of Galmak and recovery of a cal. 45 pistol with magazine and three rounds of ammunition and an anti-personnel mine.

Westmincom commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido said the military will continue supporting the PNP in law enforcement operations “to ensure the safety and security of the communities.”
