The nine comprised the first batch of 36 Japanese arrested in Makati city last November 13 by personnel of the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) fugitive search unit.

“The schedule for the implementation of the deportation of the others remaining at the BI detention center in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig have yet to be finalized,” Morente said.
Aside from their deportation, the names of the foreigners will be included in the BI’s blacklist to prevent them from coming back to the country.

The 36 Japanese were caught operating several work stations that they used for phishing operations to defraud victims in Japan.

Morente said they were told by their Japanese counterparts that they are members of an organized crime group in Japan that are engaged in voice phishing operations and telecommunications fraud. The group has reportedly earned two billion yen or $18 million from their 1,393 victims.
