IMMIGRATION agents have arrested a South Korean couple wanted in Seoul for involvement in a fraudulent investment scheme.

Sel Kwangsu and Han Haneul were apprehended last Thursday by members of bureau’s fugitive search unit which is tasked to go after foreigners hiding in the country due to criminal cases in their respective countries.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the operation that led to the arrest of the couple was carried out based on information provided by South Korean authorities.

FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy said Seol is subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Seobu district court in Seoul while a separate warrant was issued against Han by the Daejeon district court.

Sy said based on information provided by South Korean authorities, Seol was a caller of a voice-phishing syndicate who impersonated lenders of financial institutions, deceiving victims into transferring 261 million won by offering false loans.

Han, on the other hand, is wanted for defrauding five victims amounting to more than 80 million won.

Morente said the two were also overstaying in the country as records showed that Seol last arrived in Manila on April 20, 2013 while Han’s latest arrival was on Aug. 1, 2019.

“They will be deported for being undesirable and undocumented aliens, “Morente said, adding that the latter’s passports have been canceled by the Korean government.

The two are detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending their deportation.
