‘Be ready with go bags, floods possible in 7 regions’

RESIDENTS in seven regions were advised yesterday to prepare for evacuation as flooding and landslides may hit their areas because of three weather systems affecting a large part of the country.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management the three weather systems — tail-end of a frontal system, northeast monsoon, and low pressure area — inside the Philippine area of responsibility will bring rains to many parts of the country this week.

Areas to be affected are the Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions, Cordillera Administrative Region, Calabarzon region, Cagayan and Isabela provinces in the Cagayan Valley region; Aurora province in Central Luzon; and the Mindoro provinces, Marinduque and Romblon in the Mimaropa region.

The NDRRMC said these areas will experience rains this week due to the weather systems.

“Ihanda ang ‘go bag’ at maghanda sa posibleng paglikas (Be ready with your go bags and prepare for possible evacuation,” the NDRRMC said in an advisory.

The NDRRMC said continuous rains may lead to flooding and landslides, especially in areas affected by past typhoons.

It was referring to recent typhoons “Ulysses,” “Rolly,” and “Quinta” that recently submerged numerous areas in Luzon, including Cagayan province and Marikina City.

The NDRRMC urged local government units to ensure the safety of their constituents, including the preparation of evacuation centers, and implementing preemptive evacuation.

The LPA was some 115 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar as of 3 p.m yesterday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The tail-end of a frontal system is affecting the eastern section of southern Luzon while the northeast monsoon is affecting the rest of Luzon, PAGASA also said.

In an advisory issued 4 p.m yesterday, PAGASA said the Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the tail-end of the frontal system and the LPA.

Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
