COACHES involved in game-fixing have no place in Philippine basketball, or in any sports.

Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines president Louie Gonzalez told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday the group is supporting the probe launched by the Games and Amusements Board and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas over the controversial match between ARQ Builders-Lapu Lapu City and Siquijor in the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup.

“The BCAP supports the investigation ng GAB and SBP doon sa incident, whatever iyong magiging decision nila susuportahan namin and hindi na sila (erring coaches) puwede maging member ng association,” Gonzalez, also the coach of Jose Rizal University in the NCAA, said.

“Iyong mga ganitong klaseng coaches, if proven, has no place sa basketball or any other sports,” he added.

In a blatant travesty of the sports that Filipinos treat as a religion, players muffed free throws and botched open lay-ups, with the Heroes’ Rendell Senining shooting free throws with his left and right hand on separate occasions, both of which he badly missed.

The game drew the ire of coaches and players in the country.

Mystics players Joshua Alcober, Ryan Buenafe, Jan Penaflor, Gene Bellaza, Michael Calomot, Frederick Rodriguez, Jopet Quiro, Isagani Gooc, Miguel Castellano, Juan Aspiras, Peter Buenafe, Vincent Tangcay, and Michael Sereno have been banished from the league, including their coach Joel Palapal and his staff.
