PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. has signed seven bills into law which created one barangay in Surigao del Sur, created regional engineering offices of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and renamed circumferential and bypass roads, a bridge, and a national highway.
Malacanang released yesterday the copies of the laws that were enacted last March 21 and would take effect 15 days after their publications in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
The laws include Republic Act (RA) 11986 which created Barangay Guinhalinan in Barobo, Surigao del Sur; RA 11991 that re-numbered the DPWH first, second, third and fourth district engineering offices in Cebu and RA 11992 which created DPW district engineering office in Sogod in Southern Leyte.
The other laws were RA 11987 that renamed the Bohol Circumferential Road into the Carlos P Garcia Circumferential Road); RA 11988 renamed the Urdaneta City Bypass Road to Ambassador Eduardo “Danding” M. Cojuangco Jr. Avenue in Pangasinan; RA11989 renamed Tambacan Bridge to Mariano Lluch Badelles Sr. Bridge in Iligan City; and RA 19990 that named national highway Goa in Camarines Sur as Speaker Arnulfo “Noli” Fuentebella Highway.
Under RA 11986, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) shall conduct and supervise a plebiscite to be held in Barangay Guinhalinan within three months from the effectivity of the law, with the cost to be shouldered by Barobo.
The law also directs the Barobo Municipal Mayor to appoint the Punong Barangay, seven Sangguniang Barangay members, a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman and seven SK councilors of Barangay Guinhalinan until their successors have been duly elected and qualified.
RA 11991 re-numbered the DPWH first, second, third and fourth district engineering offices in Cebu “to conform and correspond, respectively, with the numbering of the legislative districts in the Province of Cebu” and directed the DPWH to issue the necessary rules, orders and circulars to implement the provisions of law within 60 days from its effectivity.
RA 11992, which created the DPWH district engineering office Sogod shall serve the municipalities of Anahawan, Hinunangan, Hinundayan, Libagon, Liloan, Pintuyan, St. Bernard, San Francisco, San Juan, San Ricardo, Silago and Sogod.
