PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. (BBM) yesterday led government’s campaign to convince the public to get COVID-19 booster shots and emphasized anew the urgency of being better protected against the virus.
The President, at the “PinasLakas” booster vaccination campaign at the Pasig City Sports Complex in Pasig City, said a person’s only defense against COVID-19 for now are vaccines and boosters.
He also reiterated the importance of following health protocols such as hand washing.
“Wala naman tayong ibang panlaban dito kung hindi ang vaccine. ‘Wag na po nating hintayin na dumami pa ang mga kaso at maging mahirap na naman ang ating pagpunta sa trabaho, ang ating paglabas ng bahay (We have no other way to fight this except the vaccines. Let us not wait for cases to rise; it will be difficult again to go to our jobs and out of our homes),” Marcos said.
He urged everyone to get the booster and convince their families and other loved ones to do the same so one would no longer worry about COVID-19.
The President, who contracted COVID-19 a second time in July, reiterated his commitment that there will be “no more lockdowns” despite rising COVID cases.
The Department of Health, on July 31, recorded 4,159 new cases of COVID-19 which brings the total active infections to 33,722.
The DOH last week launched what it said is the stronger nationwide booster vaccination campaign “PinasLakas” to increase the number of Filipinos who have been given a COVID-19 booster shot, to help maintain the country’s wall of immunity. At that time, almost 16 million individuals have been given the first booster shots and around 1.2 million belonging to the vulnerable population (healthcare workers, senior citizens, and immunocompromised), have received second boosters.
