TWO suspected gunrunners and a policeman were killed and two other cops, including an officer, were injured in a shootout in Orion, Bataan yesterday morning.
The slain policeman was identified as Corporal Darnel Alfonso, assigned with the Bataan PNP’s Provincial Intelligence Unit.
The injured were identified as PIU chief Maj. Dennis Duran and Master Sergeant Glenn Salac, also assigned with the PIU. They were brought to the Bataan General Hospital where they are recuperating.
The identities of the slain suspects have yet to be established.
The Bataan provincial police office said the incident occurred in Barangay Lim in Orion during a buy-bust operation against the suspects.
Police said the suspects opened fire at the group of Alfonso, apparently after sensing that they are policemen, leading to the shootout.
Seized from the suspects were two cal. 45 pistols with magazines and ammunition, a homemade 12-gauge shotgun with ammunition, and a hand grenade.
The Bataan police commended the “gallantry and heroism” of the police personnel involved in the successful operation.
