A 27-year-old female died after she was buried in a rain-induced landslide in Abucay, Bataan last Saturday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported yesterday.
Citing information from the field, NDRRMC information officer Easha Mariano said the incident occurred in Sitio Labangan, Purok Hacienda, Barangay Gabon in Abucay town.
Mariano said the victim’s father discovered their house buried in mud at around 7 a.m. last Saturday and promptly sought assistance.
Search and rescue teams later recovered the body of the victim and brought it to the Jumong Funeral Services in Barangay Capitangan, also in Abucay town.
“We received an initial report sent by our regional counterpart that there is one reported dead, subject for verification, from the landslide incident,” said Mariano.
Mariano declined to name the victim, pending validation by local authorities. But police officials identified the fatality as Roselyn Dela Cruz.
Officials said the soil in the area was softened by heavy rains since Friday, causing the landslide.
