THE National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) is urging the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), which is drafting its own election laws, to adopt an anti-political dynasty provision.
In a statement, Namfrel said it has recommended to the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament the inclusion of an anti-dynasty rule in the proposed Bangsamoro Electoral Code (BEC).
“Consistent with the trend started by the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Law, we recommended the adoption of the anti-political dynasty provision in said law to the BEC,” Namfrel said.
It said this means that those running for BARMM posts must not be related within the second civil degree of consanguinity or affinity to any incumbent elected national official or to any incumbent elected regional, provincial, city, municipal, or barangay official.
The SK Reform Act of 2015 contains what is considered as a landmark provision prohibiting political dynasties.
