The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has given “Barbie” the green light.
The MTRCB has given the film a Parental Guidance (PG) rating, indicating that viewers under the age of thirteen years old must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult to watch the movie.
The approval came after two reviews and consultations with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) as well as an expert on the West Philippine Sea regarding the “nine-dash line“ that shows a large portion of territories that is being claimed by China.
In MTRCB’s statement released yesterday, the board said the review committee :is convinced that the contentious scene does not depict the ‘nine-dash line.’
“Instead, the map portrayed the route of the make-believe journey of Barbie from Barbie Land to the ‘real world,’ as an integral part of the story.”
The board maintained that it has thoroughly utilized all available means and consistently taken action against filmmakers, producers, and distributors who include the fabricated “nine-dash line” in their content.
Finally, the MTRCB issued a firm warning that any display of the “nine-dash line” in films will face severe consequences, including sanctions and potential bans, for being in direct violation of the law, specifically Section 3(c)(d) of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and Republic Act No. 9522, commonly referred to as the Philippine Baselines Law.
