Bangsamoro ‘special geographic area’ plebiscite: Nearly 90K set to cast votes

ALMOST 90,000 voters are set to cast their votes when the Commission on Elections (Comelec) holds a plebiscite in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), particularly in the Special Geographic Area (SGA), on April 13.

In a briefer provided by the Comelec, there are 89,594 registered voters from the 63 barangays of North Cotabato that are being proposed to form eight new municipalities.

They are set to vote in 189 clustered precincts located in 67 voting centers.

On Plebiscite Day (Saturday), they shall vote from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the counting of votes to start at 3 pm. and the canvassing of plebiscite returns at 6 pm.

To recall, the plebiscite is based on Bangsamoro Autonomy Act Nos. 41 to 48, wherein eight municipalities are being proposed to be created from the 63 barangays of the Special Geographic Area, all in North Cotabato.

Under the proposal, the Municipality of Pahamuddin will be composed of Barangays Balacayon, Buricain, Datu Binasing, Datu Mantil, Kadingilan, Lower Pangangkalan, Libungan Torreta, Matilac, Patot, Upper Pangangkalan, Lower Baquer, and Simsiman from the Municipality of Pigcawayan, North Cotabato.

The Municipality of Kadayangan shall be composed of Barangays Central Labas, Kapinpilan, Malingao, Mudseng, Sambulawan, Tugal, and Tumbras from the Municipality of Midsayap, North Cotabato.
