MORE than 79,000 people have signified their interest to return to their home provinces under the “Balik Probinsya, Balik Pagasa” (BP2) program of the government, National Housing Authority general manager Marcelino Escalada Jr. said yesterday.

Escalada, concurrent executive director of the BP2 council, said the government has so far received 79,370 online applications for the program. He said the data does not include the manual applications that had been submitted through barangays.

Escalada said based on the profile of the applicants, more people hailing from the Visayas want to return to their hometown, followed by those who came from Mindanao.

About 35,000 of the applicants said they would bring their families back to the provinces with them while more than 40,000 said they are returning to the provinces on their own, for now.

He said many of the applicants are in the 18 to 35 years old bracket, with some of them having college degrees, had attained college level or finished technical-vocational courses.
Escalada said these profiles would help the participants find jobs or livelihood in the provinces they want to return to.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Ramon Cualoping had said the government is finalizing the details for the send off of the beneficiaries to at least 13 provinces — Camarines Sur, Zambonga del Nore, Lanao Del Sur, Lanao Del Norte, North Cotabato, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Tawi-Tawi, Eastern Samar, and Quirino and towns in the fifth district of Pangasinan, Tuburan in Cebu and Palo in Leyte.

The beneficiaries will be provided houses they can pay under a long-term agreement, agriculture and livelihood aid, including livestock raising and farming, immediate food packs and cash aid upon their return to the provinces.
