WITH Christmas right around the corner, coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) have dropped to an average of 79 per day, according to the independent OCTA Research.

In its latest COVID-19 Monitoring Report, OCTA said Metro Manila remains at “very low risk” classification with the average daily cases continuing to decline during the period of December 14 to 20.

The 79 average daily cases is six percent lower compared to the 91 average daily cases seen during the week of December 6 to 12.

OCTA said the region’s average daily attack rate (ADAR) was at 0.55 per day per 100,000, which is lower than the 0.64 per 100,000 population the previous week.

Metro Manila’s positivity rate also stood at 0.6 percent, which is lower than the 0.9 percent tallied the week prior.

But the OCTA said Metro Manila’s reproduction number climbed to 0.48 from the 0.39 seen a week earlier.

Fifteen of the 17 local government units (LGUs) in NCR were classified as “very low risk” by the OCTA. These are Pateros, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Caloocan, Marikina, Pasay, Taguig, Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Malabon, Parañaque, Valenzuela, Manila, and Makati.

Las Piñas and San Juan were placed at “low risk” classification after they both average daily attack rates of above 1 per 100,000 population.

Last month, OCTA has said that it expects new cases in the NCR to decrease further to less than 100 per day by the time the December holidays arrive.
