Army probes death of female lieutenant

A FEMALE junior officer of the Philippine Army was found dead inside the Army’s headquarters at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City last Sunday, an apparent suicide.

Army spokesman Col. Xerxes Trinidad the Army is conducting a thorough investigation on the death of 2nd Lt. Stephanie Rebellon, assigned with the Army’s Civil Military Operations Regiment (CMOR) based in Fort Bonifacio.

Trinidad said Rebellon, a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bagsik Diwa” class of 2022, was “undergoing orientation for her future role in the CMOR’s civil and public affairs center.”

Trinidad said Rebellon, 25, was found dead inside the comfort room of her quarters at around 11 a.m. last Sunday “with a gunshot wound to her head.”

A military report said a military-issued 9mm pistol was found beside Rebellon.

Rebellon was brought to the Army General Hospital inside Fort Bonifacio but was declared dead on arrival.

Trinidad said Rebellon left a suicide note, saying to her parents and siblings.

Trinidad said the Army “deeply condoles with the family and loved ones” of Rebellon.

“The Army leadership has given instruction for an internal investigation on the incident.

CMOR was directed to look into all possible angles of the incident as it conducts a thorough and impartial probe,” said Trinidad.
