TWO Army soldiers, including a major, were killed and another was injured when a soldier went amuck inside an Army camp in Tagum City in Davao del Norte on Tuesday night.
The fatalities were Maj. Franklyn Embat and T/Sgt. Sandato Tuma, executive officer and sergeant major, respectively, of the Army’s 10th Civil Military Operations Battalion based in Barangay San Agustin, Tagum City.
The suspect, S/Sgt. Arvin Bureros, also assigned with the battalion, is under the custody of the Tagum City police station for further investigation.
The Army’s 10th Infantry Division, based in Davao de Oro, said Bureros walked pass the formation area of fellow soldiers inside the camp at around 6:45 p.m., shouted “taposon na nato ni” (let us finish this), then fired his rifle at Embat and Tuma.
Maj. Mineheart Maliawao, the battalion’s personnel officer, engaged Bureros in a gun scuffle and secured Burero’s rifle.
Pacifying troops, however, released Bureros because he had a pistol. Burero fled but later surrendered to barangay officials, who turned him over to the Tagum City police station.
