PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. has designated Brig. Gen. Arvin Lagamon as commander of the AFP’s Civil Relations Service (CRS), the military’s psychological warfare arm.
Last Tuesday, Lagamon took command of the CRS, which has been lacking a permanent commander since August when former CRS chief Maj. Gen. Manuel Sequitin retired.
Lagamon replaced Col. Medel Aguilar, who had been serving as acting CRS commander in concurrent capacity as CRS vice commander. Aguilar is also the AFP spokesman.
Acting AFP vice chief Vice Adm. Rommel Anthony Reyes presided in rites giving Lagamon command of the CRS at the AFP headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo.
Lagamon, a member of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1992, commanded the Army’s Civil Military Operations Regiment prior to his designation as CRS commander.
He is a holder of two master’s degrees — in public management (major in development security) from the Development Academy of the Philippines and national security administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines.
Lagamon took his command and general staff course from the AFP Command and General Staff College and public affairs officer qualification course from the Defense Information School in Maryland, USA.
Lagamon said he will continue to be the voice of the AFP and partner of the Filipino people not only in the fight against insurgency but in defending the country from other threats.
“As we pursue our mandate as a unit, we will build upon the efforts and the accomplishments of my predecessors. We will anchor our campaign in the President’s call for peace and unity and in the command guidance of our Chief of Staff,” said Lagamon.
“I am very confident that with your (public) support, we will succeed. We can make a difference. Puso lang ang kailangan natin (we only need compassion) in this line of work,” he said.
