DOTTIE Ardina outshone compatriot Bianca Pagdanganan yesterday (Sunday in the US), firing a 70 to finish in an eight-way tie for 31st place at the end of the Pure Silk Championship presented by Williamsburg in Pennsylvania.
Ardina scored her second straight under par round following a 70 in the third round to finish with a 72-hole tally of 283 over the par-71, 6,445-yard River Course at Kingsmill Resort.
She pocketed $8,469 (roughly P406,000) after finishing 12 strokes behind Taiwan’s Wei-Ling Hsu, who shot an eagle-aided 68 for a 271 total that propelled her to her first win on the US LPGA tour while pocketing the top prize of $195,000 (P9.3 million).
After a sterling 67 in the penultimate round, Pagdanganan skidded to a final round 73, bogged down by double bogeys on holes Nos. 2 and 9 plus a bogey on the 11th, to finish in a six-way deadlock for 39th. She went home with $5,980 (P287,000).
Pagdanganan, who anchored the national squad’s sweep of the team and individual gold medals in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, is on the reserve list of the next tournament on the US ladies tour, the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-play hosted by Shadow Creek, set on May 26-30 Las Vegas. — Bong Pedralvez
