A PROVINCIAL employee who was wounded in the March 4 attack that killed Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and eight others succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 10.

A Facebook post made by Degamo’s widow, Pamplona town Mayor Janice Degamo, identified the fatality as Fredilino Cafe Jr., also known as “Putok,” an employee of the Negros Oriental Provincial Engineering Office.

He died from injuries more than two months after armed men stormed Degamo’s residence in Pamplona town on March 4, while he was meeting with his constituents, and opened fire, killing the governor and eight others.

Cafe had reportedly been in and out of the hospital.

The Department of Justice has 11 suspects in custody, most of them former military men.

Earlier, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said the NBI will file multiple murder complaints against suspended Negros Oriental Rep.Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves in connection with Degamo’s killing. Remulla said Teves appears to be the mastermind in the attack.

Teves, who continues to refuse to return to the country over fears for his safety, has denied any link or involvement in the killing.

Aside from being implicated in the Degamo killing, Teves is also facing multiple murder charges before the DOJ over the 2019 killing of three person in Negros Oriental, as well as complaints of illegal possession of firearms.

The DOJ is also working for the Anti-Terrorism Council to designate Teves as a terrorist under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.
