OPERATIVES of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group have arrested another suspect in the ambush of Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong in February last year.
The CIDG announced yesterday the arrest of the suspect, identified as Ameno Amatonding, 52, who was nabbed last December 30 in Barangay Aguisan in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Amatonding was arrested on the strength of arrest warrants for four counts of murder, 19 counts of attempted murder and three counts of frustrated murder.
“Amatonding was positively identified by a witness based on his statement on the ambush of Governor Adiong (that) happened last February 17, 2023,” said CIDG director Maj. Gen. Romeo Caramat.
Amatonding was brought to the CIDG Capiz provincial field unit “for documentation” before his presentation to the court that issued the arrest warrants.
“The CIDG will continue its unwavering commitment to pursue lawbreakers and serve justice as it heeds the call of CPNP (Chief PNP) Gen. Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., particularly of having aggressive and honest law enforcement operations,” said Caramat.

Three of his police security personnel and a civilian driver died in the attack while Adiong and two staff members were injured.
Several other suspects in the ambush have been earlier arrested by authorities.
