OPERATIVES of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group have arrested another suspect in the ambush of Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong last February.
Karis Tomao was nabbed in Barangay Bangco, Marawi City, Lanao del Sur last Friday last week by virtue of warrants for murder, frustrated murder and attempted murder.
CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said Tomao is a member of the Gandawali Group involved in gun-for-hire, gunrunning and drug trafficking in Lanao del Sur.
Caramat said Tomao is also on the list of the most wanted persons of the Lanao del Sur provincial police office.
“Tomao was involved in the ambush of Governor Bombit A. Adiong and his convoy that injured the governor and killed three members of the PNP and one civilian,” said Caramat.
Adiong’s convoy was ambushed by a group of armed men in Maguing, Lanao del Sur last February 17, leading to the death of Staff Sgt. Mohammad Adiong, Corporals Johanie Sumandar and Jalil Cosain, 40, and driver Hassanor Pundaodaya.
Adiong was injured in the attack, along with two staff members.
Last May 3, one of the suspects in the ambush, identified as Oscar Gandawali, was killed in a firefight with lawmen in Maguing, Lanao del Sur.
Another suspect, Lomala Baratumo, alias Commander Lomala, 42, was arrested by authorities in Surallah, Lanao del Sur last May 25.
