THE Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday said another Filipino has been detained by Japanese authorities who are investigating the death of a Japanese couple whose bodies were discovered in Adachi Ward last January 16.
DFA Undersecretary Eduardo Jose De Vega said the male Filipino was taken into custody yesterday.
“Another Filipino citizen was arrested today, but it is not clear if he was involved in the killing,” said De Vega, who declined to identify the Filipino.
De Vega said the DFA, through the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, is still verifying if the Filipino is a migrant worker or already a permanent resident in Japan.
Earlier, Japanese authorities arrested a Filipina identified by Japanese media as 30-year-old Hazel Ann Morales in connection with the case.
De Vega said embassy officials were set to visit her yesterday.
De Vega appealed to the public to stop speculating about her supposed involvement in the case.
“We also ask the public not to post speculations or sensational news stories that would put her innocence into question. She has not been charged with the actual killing of the couple.
Nor has she admitted to wrongdoing,” De Vega added.
