SEN. Juan Edgardo Angara yesterday said nobody has approached or talked to him that he is being eyed as the next Education secretary after the resignation of Vice President Sara Duterte from the Cabinet last week.

Angara, in a text message to reporters, said: “No one has spoken to me about that. TY (Thank you).”

A report (not in Malaya) claimed that Angara was one of three government officials reportedly being eyed by President Marcos Jr. to replace Duterte.

The report, citing sources, said the two others were Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo and Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual.

The report said Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin offered the post to Quimbo but she reportedly turned it down, intent on running for a local position in the 2025 elections.

Angara is one of the five senators who will “graduate” or are not eligible for re-election since they have served two consecutive six-year terms.

The other senators who will “graduate” next year are Nancy Binay, Aquilino Pimentel III, Grace Poe, and Cynthia Villar.
