AN American pedophile wanted by US authorities was apprehended Monday in a joint operation in Pangasinan conducted by the Bureau of Immigration and the Philippine National Police.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said Michael Kent Clapper, 69, was arrested in San Manuel town by operatives from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit and the Women and Children Protection Center of the PNP Regional Office 1.

Morente said the US Embassy in Manila requested help last June 26 in apprehending Clapper “due to his involvement in possible sexual exploitation of a minor” in the country.”

The embassy, according to Morente, also informed the BI that Clapper’s passport has expired, making him an undocumented alien.

Clapper arrived in the country as a tourist March last year.

“He will be deported for being an undocumented and undesirable alien. His continued presence here poses a serious risk to our Filipino children, anyone of whom could be his next victim,” Morente said.
