ALERT Immigration personnel yesterday foiled an attempt by an American woman to spirit out of the country a 6-day-old infant hidden in a shoulder bag.
Immigration deputy spokesperson Melvin Mabulac said Jennifer Talbot, 43, was apprehended by immigration personnel at around 6:20 a.m. at the NAIA Terminal 3 while she was about to leave for the United States.
Mabulac said Talbot failed to present papers identifying the infant. She claimed to be an aunt of the kid.
Mabulac said they could not yet confirm if the infant was Talbot’s own, adding this is the reason why the BI “turned over the subjects to the National Bureau of Investigation” for further investigation.
He said immigration personnel also alerted the Department of Social Welfare and Development which maintains an office at NAIA Terminal 1 to take care of the infant while authorities are conducting an investigation.
BI Port Operations Division chief Grifton Medina said the US Embassy in Manila have been informed of Talbot’s arrest. — Ashzel Hachero
