UNLIKE the Feast of the Black Nazarene, activities related to the Feast of the Sto. Niño de Cebu are set to make a comeback next year.

In a statement, the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu announced that all public religious activities related to the 458th Fiesta Señor will be held just like before.

“After two years of hiatus from all public religious activities, the Augustinian Friars have decided to resume all religious activities of the Fiesta Señor,” said the Santo Niño Basilica.

This includes the Penitential Walk with Jesus on January 5, 2023; Novena Masses from January 5 to 14, 2023; and Penitential Walk with Mary on January 13, 2023.

The Traslaciones will also be held in the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu along with the Fluvial Procession and the Solemn Procession of the image of Sto. Niño de Cebu on January 14, 2023.

“Santo Niño is truly our source of joy and peace! We acclaim with a heart full of faith: Viva, Pit Señor! Viva Señor Santo Niño!” it said.

The oldest Roman Catholic church in the country asked all those planning to attend to continue adhering to existing health protocols.

“We appeal to all devotees, pilgrims, and guests to adhere to all protocols, which are being implemented for a safe, orderly, and solemn conduct of our religious celebration. Let us be mindful,” it said.

Last week, the Quiapo Church in Manila announced that the January 9 grand fiesta procession of the Black Nazarene image will still not be held next year.

All physical activities related to the Feast of the Black Nazarene and the Feast of the Sto. Niño de Cebu were suspended the past two years due to the coronavirus disease pandemic.
