PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. has designated the PNP’s chief information officer as director of the Central Visayas regional police office.

Brig. Gen. Roderick Alba, chief of the PNP Public Information Office (PIO), succeeded Brig. Gen. Eduardo Vega, who reached the retirement age of 56 yesterday.

Alba announced his new position yesterday morning as bid farewell to members of the PNP Press Corps after leading the PIO for about 13 months. “It was such a great journey with all of you,” he said.

“For more than a year, we had established a good and professional working relationship. I thank you for all the support, cooperation and patience. I hope I have helped you in accomplishing your tasks as journalist and members of the media,” said Alba.

Alba, a member of the PNPA Class of 1992, took over as PIO chief in September last year. Before that, he was the deputy director for administration of the PNP Information Technology Management Service.

Alba will be succeeded as PIO chief by Col. Redrico Maranan, of the PNP Academy class of 1995, and the outgoing deputy director for operations of the Quezon City Police District.

Maranan has previously served key positions in the PNP, including chief of police of Marikina City, director of the Pangasinan provincial police office, and chief of staff of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, among others.
