THE Philippine Air Force will showcase some of its modern aircraft during the celebration of the 124th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence at the Luneta Park in Manila on Sunday.

Air Force spokesman Col. Maynard Mariano said two FA-50 fighter jets will make a high-speed opener pass to signal the start of the ceremony.

At the end portion of the program, a number of aircraft will be involved in a flyby, including A-29 Super Tucano close-air support aircraft, S-70i Black Hawk combat utility helicopters, and T-129 attack helicopters.

These aircraft were acquired over the past years under the ongoing modernization program of the Armed Forces.

Mariano said the Air Force was not able to pursue the activities in the past two Independence Day celebrations because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“2019 was the last time we did this,” he said.

Mariano said the Air Force will be showcasing again on Sunday “to show the Filipino people that we are free and we can dominate our airspace without contest.”

“This is an indication that we are indeed a sovereign nation,” he added.
